Steamed vegetables? steamer.jpg

Ok you can all stop laughing now. I know it sounds unusual and even unlikely but then again when have you known me to do anything that remotely resembles normal?

Hello, my name is Patricia (aka MGL) and I am a vegetableaholic….

It all started last week when I spotted an electric steamer whilst on a shopping spree (that is a whole other blog post on its own!) and knew I just had to have it!

Every dinner time since we have been consuming vast quantities of every vegetable imaginable. There is something so different between the way this contraption steams the vegetables and your bog standard boiled variety that I used to churn out on a regular basis.

Nothing seems water logged or soggy anymore, the minted potatoes are tastier, carrots orangier and crispier and the corn is, ummm….yes…cornier :P

The speed with which this culinary masterpiece takes place is another amazing miracle in itself. Within 10 or so minutes of turning it on, I am turning it off again and plating up food that even Jamie Oliver would describe as “pukka!”

Apparently you can steam fish, chicken and all manner of other delightful things along side the vegetables but I am yet to try any of that….I can’t have unimportant stuff like protein taking up the precious space that my vegetables need!

Anyone else relate?

Your blog has become the source of a new wish list for me. I want the keyboard and the steamer! Just when I thought I had everything I wanted :-)! I love steamed veges too.

Joh go for the steamer…rush out and buy one today..the keyboard well that’s a whole other kettle of fish, my advice is to see if you can try one out before purchasing. They take a *little* getting used to, and now I don’t even have the option of changing back to my old one as some small, very hairy dog has chewed the plug off it!

Me! Me! I can relate *nods crazily* - Aren’t they fantastic. I love my steamer and use it everyday - the flavour of the vegetables and fish are so much more better :D

When I was preggers with my daughter I couldn’t get enough steamed broccoli. Today she is 18 and it’s her favorite veggie too.

Oh,Patricia - I love vegies - steamed are my favourite too.
MY SIL in Q had one when we visited and she said it was brilliant.
I might get one but I can’t live without my meat.
I am inspired to go shopping …

i have a steamer that looks a lot like that. i think it’s a black & decker and like you, I LOVE IT! i don’t cook veggies any other way anymore becuase they are just delish in the steamer! it is multi-functional too. it does rice, hard-boils eggs and can actually cook lots of other foods like meats & warm stuff up. it has to be my single most used appliance ever!
