A third drawer down that is?
Every house I have ever lived in and every kitchen I have ever presided over has always had one.
It makes a lot of sense to me really. The top drawer is for cutlery, second is for bigger implements like mashers, tongs, slotted spoons and salad servers and the third drawer down seems to be the home for things that just don’t live anywhere else.
Freezer bag ties, masking tape, cat worming tablets, picture hooks, screws and screwdrivers, pens, pegs, keys (to what I am not quite sure), packets of seeds, and recipes torn from magazines, all seem to be living quite happily in my third drawer down.
What kind of amazing things live in yours?

My drawers are odd in this house. I have a lot of top drawers - one for flatware, one for foil/baggies, one for measuring cups/spoons and other odds & ends and of course the ever messy junk drawer. All of these drawers have cabinets under them. The one top drawer that has drawers under it hold some of my cooking utensils, the second drawer has more utensils & lids for pots & pans {it’s a deep drawer} and the third holds hand towels, bibs, cleaning cloths & high chair place mat {also a deep drawer}.
My 3rd drawer down has teatowels, sushi mats, napkins and stuff.
The 4th drawer has warranties and manuals.
I have moved the crap drawer to a container (on top of the microwave until a recent clean up - now a much smaller container on the sideboard).
It has: toothpicks, screws, keys (some I know I need), blu tack, pegs, emery boards, plastic wine corker, take away menus and batteries - and that was AFTER the clean out!
Oh yep 3rd drawer full of crap!! If I remember right didnt the “Scared Weird Little Guys” write a song about the 3rd drawer?
My 3rd drawer down is tea towels too, my bottom drawer is my downfall. I don’t remember opening it since moving in 4 years ago, I dare not even check as who knows what lurks in there lol
My word Mad Goat Lady - I’m going back to the shop, they’ve given me cabinets that consists of nothing but 3rd drawers!!!! I knew I wasn’t THAT untidy.
I put all plastic bags and delivery order brochures in my 3rd drawer. I rarely check the drawer, because I know I have to clean it. But I never have a mood =)
Oh, instead of the 3rd drawer down full of crap, I have three drawers full. The kitchen at this house had lots and lots of drawers, so many so that even I will all my cooking parephenalia cannot fill them up, so the empty ones became places to stuff crap to clear counters when company arrived unexpectedly…..
It is always a top drawer in my home. And yes. My mom had one. My Grandma had one. My Step-mom had one. Why? WHY? Step mom called it a Possiable-drawer.
Teatowels and recipes. But this is so weird because until very recently, the third drawer down was the hold-all for everything! Is there some unwritten cosmic law that says it always has to be the third drawer down!
My 3rd drawer down has a family size box of tea bags, various other boxes of herbal teas and kool-aid for when the grandkids come to visit. My junk drawer is on the other side of the room. It is a drawer that I have been talking about going through and throwing away or giving away everything in it that I haven’t used in the 7 years that we have been in this house. Why did I collect all of that junk anyway? Why do I keep it? Because I might need it?
Oh yeah, I too have that third drawer. Don’t know that I have anything more amazing than anyone else but I’m sure it wouldn’t hurt to clean it out to see what I can get rid of or go ‘ah’ because I haven’t seen it for so long.
