Screech and other billy goat stuff to make your eyes water!
Posted on June 5, 2007 - Filed Under Goats, General
This is SCREECH.
SCREECH is our one and our only ‘billy goat’ and probably our last. By now you will all have realized that I am a MAD animal lover but I am sorry to say that I kind of have a problem with ‘billy goats’. Besides the fact that they are VERY smelly (think cat pee x 1000), they have this horrible habit where they can twist and turn themselves at funny angles in order to drink their own pee, but to make it that much worse, they will also position themselves so they are at the right place, at the right time to drink the urine of any other peeing animal in the paddock.
So besides his constant screeching (SCREECH by name, SCREECH by nature!) his liking for drinking pee and his knockout odour, I am quite fond of him …what do you think?
Pretty cute huh?

How Sweet! What cute curly ears and gentle eyes! My parents used to raise pygmy goats when I was a kid!
* Screech is too cute.
* I’m glad smells don’t transfer through the internet.
* That may be one of the grossest things I’ve heard.
* Thanks for the laugh!
I like goats, they’re cute - though drinking your own pee is disgusting
Thanks for visiting our blog, glad you enjoyed it.
These were some goat facts that I surely didn’t know!
Screech sounds like a joy to have around the house.
He looks adorable in the photo, I am just glad I can’t smell him.
he is adorable, in a urine gulping, screaming and stinking kind of way… mmm… maybe i should get one, they sound like heaps of fun.
Why on earth would he do this? Why would you want to own an animal that does this? I love animals too, but I’d rather have a dog that just licks himself.
However, he is quite cute. In a goaty kind of way.
Um, that brown smudge on his nose doesn’t have anything to do with his strange drinking habits does it?
he’s adorable love the ears to . i never knew that Billygoats were such stinky goats wonder why they do that eh, well it’s not as if he is an indoor goat so the smell should’nt bother you but i bet the other animals hate to see him come close lol
I sooooooo did not know that goats did the pee drinking thing. Ugh. There has to be some kind of a reason for that nature wise — but what the hell could it be?
Thanks for dropping by teh Poor Mouth. Screech is one handsome devil!
Yes, I’ve waxed eloquent on my own billies and billy goats in general on my own blog. They actually pee on their beards because they think it attracts the lay-dees. Funny thing…I’ve never seen a doe respond to that really enthusiastically.
And sneaking up on you to pee on your shoes. My guys are really good at that trick.
He is lovely
I just googled “goat drinking pee” (not at work mind you - people mind wonder about me!) as I’ve just been on holiday and be-friended a goat while i was there. Your forum popped up as a result.
As a baby goat, (when I met him 5 years ago) he didn’t do this but has since started doing it whenever I visited him with treats. Really weird! And it totally grossed my husband out who wouldn’t come over and talk to him
Still, I like him. And very originally, i called him “Billy”.
Screech sounds cute but eww on the pee drinking! Our son had a Black (wild) goat as a pet once (Grandpa captured her on his farm) - her name was Snowy (heehee). Snowny lived in Sydney for a while then he took her back to Giralambone so she got up the duff. The she escaped - haha to him.
Later ,we had two captured wild goats as pets too but feral dogs killed them.I didn’t mind them.Goats are kind of cute.
He is adorable!!!! I love my Vincent Van Goat. He was a very bucky kind of buck - really. He courted all the girls in our herd and then me. Can’t say I enjoyed having my feet pissed on, but whatever. Unfortunately, I had to have him banded because we have a limited space problem and I had a doe that could not be bred again. So……bless him. He still courts but not quite with the same enthusiasm. He’s very jealous though, he doesn’t want me to pay any attention to anyone else. I can’t help it - I love him.
He is a cutie. I miss our Boer goats. I cannot wait to get back to Louisiana and the farm.
[…] My amazing FairyBlog Mother sent him to me. Yes he is a boy..see he has a beard…let’s hope he doesn’t have any of the other nasty, nasty attributes that we all now know billy goats have..if you don’t then read HERE. […]
Hi,
GORGEOUS little fella there. I have 6 goats, 3 does, 1 buck and 2 wethers (newly castrated, so still testosterone filled and taking on Dad) Our buck isn’t too stinky, luckily, but since siring the babies, he has become rather feisty and thinks he’s King of the Castle. The 2 Mothers are Sanaans and the Buck is a Sanaan/Angora/Feral cross, not too sure of what he is crossed with actually.
I think he’s cute, but drinking his own pee??? EEEWWWW!!!!!!!! I hope you don’t let him kiss you!
